Daisy is doing great

Well Daisy, the family Golden Retriever of 12 years, is doing great.  It was touch and go FOR A WHILE.  I massaged the leg every hour I was home and a heating pad was administered for 30 minutes after her trips outside.  We had to hold her up when she went outside to the bathroom.  We had to pick her hind quarters up to assist her in standing.  Rugs were placed everywhere inside on the tile floor so she would not slip when she walked.  Even our Daybed Trundle mattress was placed on the living-room floor for her to lay since she no longer could get up on the bed or couch to sleep...  (Even though the cold hard flooring was her choice); but I knew it was to her demise on her elderly joints; so with great determination on our part and enormous rebellion on Daisy's part, it paid off and she gradually started getting better. Within 1 month of being on the medication and full attention on her left hind leg she started holding herself up without  much assistance from us. (do you realize how difficult it is to holdup the butt of a 98 lbs dog while she takes a pee and poop!!  Now I need a physical therapist)  It still was a long haul and she is still on a pain medication, Gabapentin.  We give her half the dose now since Jan 21 and she continues to gets her peanut butter flavored wafers from Nutri-Vet for Hip and Joints with Glucosamine. (she loves them thank goodness).  I know this is an ongoing ailment in regards to joint degeneration but she and Monty (our other family four paws member..more on Monty next blog post)  are once again "Comfortably Content".

All is well in MiMi's Kitchen of four Paws now........Amazing what we will do for our Best Friends... and well worth every second of it.
